U Fleku Beer & Lunch
The Czech Republic, and its capital city of Prague, are proudly referred to as the HOME OF BEER! The tradition of brewing is connected with the history of Czech/Slavic tribes since the 7th century, when Pagans used to plant hops and malt and brew the very earliest beer, and then the 1st Christian kings, the Premysleds and St. Wenceslas (also known as Good King Wenceslas) gave brewers special privilidges, and he himself even helped plant hops and malt, which is how the brewery tradition started. Before the industrial revolution, there were plenty of Micro Breweries all over Prague, but then most of the smaller breweries (around 1900) started to be bought up by several fast-growing breweries such as Pilsner Urquell, Gambrinus, Budvar etc... Only a few micro breweries survived, and U Fleku Brewery was founded in 1499 in a central location in the New Town of Prague, which is easily walkable from the Old Town or New Town hotels, and in case of further distance we can get there by public transportation. The brewery provides a 1 hour long tour of its interior (historical and modern production) and 1 free original "Flekovske Beer" with a souvenir glass. A delicious 3 course traditional meal with yet another free large beer completes the whole experience in U Fleku Restaurant.
